REFLEXOLOGY & REIKI

Reflexology

Taught primarily by experienced Academy tutor Sharon Bull and supported by Academy Principal Katya Langmuur, this will be an ITEC Diploma presented in true holistic Academy-style. Taught intensively over a series of 5 creative and fun weekends – plus one extra Saturday as a mock exam and ‘pulling it all together’ day – it should more than furnish its participants to sail through their exams and into new and blossoming careers as holistic reflexology practitioners!

Whether you wish to supplement your existing massage practice income by having a further therapy string to add to your bow, whether you wish to bypass the massage altogether and train from scratch as a reflexologist or whether you just really like foot massage and want to come and play this summer, this may well be the course for you!

What is included in the Course Fees and how to pay them:
We have tried to make this the most competitively priced diploma course that we possibly could and have decided to opt for a single price that covers absolutely everything from start to finish. Your fee of £980 includes all the following:

* All 11 days of tuition spread over 5 ½ weekends
* All homework marking fees
* All coursework marking fees
* Exam entry fee
* All additional exam administration, venue hire fees etc

The deposit for the course is 50% of the total, therefore £490.

The deposit needs to paid in full by the start of the course in May; however, we appreciate that for some participants it may be more convenient to pay this in a number of smaller installments and so individual arrangements can be made with the Office around this.

The remaining 50% of the course fee (£490) is then due in installments of £100 at the start of each of the first 4 full weekends and a final £90 at the 5th.

What is included in the Course:
As with all Academy courses, we have tried to squeeze as much as we can into this one too! This is in no way an exclusive list but we will, of course, be including the following:

o Holistic approach to reflexology
o History of reflexology
o Foot reading
o How, why and where to work fluently with all the zones of the feet and toes
o Exploring and working with the zones of the hands too…
o Related anatomical and physiological structures and considerations
o Contraindications and how to work most effectively
o Applying reflexology in successful stress management work
o Applying reflexology in social care and palliative care situations o Holistic client care, consultation and aftercare
o Legislative considerations affecting reflexology
o Case study supervision
o Exam preparation

What does the Exam consist of:
If the entering student has an ITEC Diploma in Holistic Massage, then the written exam element is a single 60 minute multiple-choice paper in Reflexology and a group practical assessment.

Students without this Diploma may also need to take additional 60 minute multiple-choice papers in ‘Anatomy and Physiology’ and / or in ‘Professional Conduct and Business Awareness’.

How to enroll onto the Course and who is eligible:
We have already had a lot of preliminary interest in this programme so if you are at all interested in enrolling you should contact the Academy Office as soon as you can to discuss any individual arrangements or requirements. A deposit is required to secure your space.

You may join the training with an existing ITEC Diploma in Holistic Massage, with an ITEC Diploma in Anatomy & Physiology or without either. Depending on what ITEC qualifications you already hold, we will be able to supplement modules as necessary.

* If you already have the Diploma in Holistic Massage then you need take no other elements than the training already offered. That’s it!
* If you have the Diploma in A&P then you need to take an additional multiple-choice paper in ‘Professional Conduct and Business Awareness’ and we will be able to provide additional supervision to support this.
* If you have no existing ITEC Diploma then you need to take additional papers in ‘Anatomy and Physiology’ and in ‘Professional Conduct and Business Awareness’. We would then require you to enroll on our 4 weekend A&P module in order to prepare you suitably for the first paper as well as take additional supervision for the second.

Please contact the Office if you are unsure about which route best suits you!

Reiki

NEW for 2007/08: Reiki Training

We are delighted to be adding a series of Reiki attunement courses to our existing training programme, beginning in December 2007. These holistic courses will be offered in true Academy-style to enable you to fully explore the traditional healing art of Reiki.

Each of the weekends will be led by respected Reiki Master, Karen Douglas and supported by Academy Principal, Katya Langmuur. At each level, we will discover more about the principles of Reiki, its history, symbols and of course its application as one of the purest of the healing art forms.

We have been careful to create each module to run over at least two days (three for Reiki Master) to ensure that you not only have the space to be attuned to the Reiki vibration but that you have plenty of time to polish your skills and awareness, to take them into professional practice - should you wish. The importance of intention and working from the heart will be at the core of every class, as with all Academy training.

At the culmination of the training, spaced over four weekend modules, you will able to apply the term ‘Reiki Master’ to yourself and will be able to work as a professional healer at this level. The great versatility of Reiki enables it to be integrated very naturally into massage therapy or reflexology as well as being a popular therapy in its own right, of course.

Course Dates, Prices & Venue
The full programme of attunements will encompass Reiki 1, Reiki 2, Reiki Master and Reiki Master 2. Each module can be taken in sequence over the span of several months allowing space for you to consolidate each level before moving on to the next.

Reiki Level 1       15-16 December 2007       £160
                    OR 9-10 February 2008
Reiki Level 2       19-20 April 2008               £180
Reiki Master        12-14 September 2008     £300
Reiki Master 2     4-5 October 2008             £200

All the Reiki courses will be held at movingartsbase, 134 Liverpool Road, London N1.

If you would like more information or to book a place, please complete the booking form or contact us at touch@massage.org.uk Please note that a deposit is required to secure your place as spaces are strictly limited on this course!

So what is Reiki?
Reiki means spiritually guided life force energy. It is the energy that surrounds and pervades every living thing. To receive an attunement as a student of Reiki means that your physical body is brought into alignment with that energy; which allows deep transformation for self and others.

What is involved at each level?
During the Reiki 1 training, students will be attuned to the Reiki vibration. The weekend will also include guided visualisation and healing swaps. This weekend will enable you to share your Reiki skills with friends and family.

For Reiki 2, the weekend will focus on three Reiki symbols, to which you will receive attunement, including the distance healing symbol. These will be discussed and used in practice over the two days. You will be able to work professionally after this module.
The Reiki Master (or Advanced Reiki) course includes attunement to the first Reiki Master symbol. It is a powerful symbol and its uses and application will be discussed along with healing practice over this three day course.

Providing the last two Reiki symbols, Reiki Master 2 (or Reiki Teacher) will initiate you into the art of mastery of self. This weekend will provide you with the skills to be able to teach Reiki yourself.

Brief History of Reiki
Mikao Usui was the founder of Reiki and there are many stories about who he was and where he came from. He worked as a teacher in Japan in the late 19th century and it is said that he was asked by his students how Jesus had healed. He travelled far and wide to try and find the answer, studying ancient texts and visiting well known spiritual sites.

Eventually he climbed a mountain where he fasted and meditated for 21 days. On the 21st day he received the Reiki symbols into his crown chakra. Reiki has been passed down over the years, coming to the West through a lady called Hawayo Takata in the 1950s after she studied with Mikao Usui.

Our Lineage & Vision
We acknowledge that through Karen Douglas we are connected, via her own Reiki Master, to Hawayo Takata and therefore back to Mikao Usui. As Karen explains, “I have worked with Usui in spirit and believe I work closely with his ethos for Reiki, its origins and continuance. I believe Reiki to be an incredible, transformational tool that can be used for self development and healing. With practice this can lead to using that energy to help others with their own personal growth and healing.”
